Frequently Asked Questions about neurolenses®

Why did my doctor recommend neurolenses®?Based on your symptoms, your eye care provider performed the neurolens® Measurement test and determined that you have a misalignment in your vision. neurolenses® are the first and only prescription lenses that bring the eyes into proper alignment at all distances. Contoured prism has been shown in studies1-2 to relieve symptoms including headaches, neck pain/tension and eyestrain.

What is different about neurolenses®?While standard eyeglasses focus primarily on clarity of vision, neurolenses® are the first and only prescription lenses that add a contoured prism to bring the eyes into proper alignment to achieve both clear vision and relief.

How often should I wear neurolenses®?We strongly recommend that you wear your neurolenses® during all waking hours for the best results. If you are not able to wear your neurolenses® during all waking hours, it is important to wear them while doing near work (i.e. digital device use, reading, etc).

Is this covered by insurance?

Traditional vision insurance is intended to cover your traditional vision needs. neurolenses® are the only premium therapeutic lenses that add a contoured prism to bring the eyes into alignment at all distances. Contoured prism has been shown in studies1,2 to relieve symptoms including headaches, neck pain/tension and eyestrain while still addressing your traditional vision needs in a single pair of glasses. Although these lenses are not covered by traditional insurance plans, you can use your HSA or FSA account toward your purchase of neurolenses® or Care Credit.

How soon can I expect to see results or improvement in my symptoms?

Most patients see results with their neurolenses® within the first 3-7 days of wearing them; however, some patients take a bit longer to adjust — sometimes up to 2 or 3 weeks.

What if I wear contacts?

neurolenses® incorporate both your contoured prism prescription and your regular eyeglasses prescription. They can also be ordered with only your contoured prism prescription to be worn over contacts. neurolenses® are not currently available in contacts.

What if I have 20/20 vision and don't need glasses? Would this treatment still work for me?

Yes; while a misalignment may not affect visual acuity, it may put unwanted stress on the trigeminal nerve resulting in symptoms such as headaches, neck/shoulder pain and eyestrain. neurolenses® can be manufactured with or without a regular eyeglasses prescription.

Are there any side effects of neurolenses®?

Because neurolenses® are adjusting the way your eyes communicate with your brain, it may take a short time to get used to them. Some patients may experience a slight disorientation the first time they try them on. Once you have become accustomed to this change, there are no known, lasting, negative side effects. The adaptation process is similar but may be stronger than that of adjusting to progressive lenses for the first time.
